In 2016/17 group stage Ronaldo only manage to scored just two but it was a great opportunity for Lionel Messi to closed the gap between him and Cristiano Ronaldo's goals in Champions League.
The Argentine opened the scoring against the Scottish side with a clever finish in the first half of the clash, and secured the three points from the penalty spot in the 55th minute.
Messi has now scored 92 Champions League goals, just three behind Real Madrid talisman Ronaldo, who has 95 UCL strikes to his name.
The Blaugrana forward has been in spectacular form in Europe this season, finding the back of the net nine times in four matches, while his counterpart Ronaldo has struck just twice in the competition so far.
The Portuguese also holds for the record for the most goals in a Champions League group stage, with 11 strikes, a record Messi could look to better in the Catalan club's last Group C match against Borussia Monchengladbach.
